Litter V · 2026

Bas Leśna Inspiracja × Astra de Zeta Centauri

Born on 20 October 2026: three boys and two girls.

A collage of Litter V in their first days: Astra lying with her five liver-and-white puppies in the whelping box, and close-ups of the puppies asleep

Meet the puppies

Both girls and one of the boys already have families waiting for them. We don't allocate puppies at birth: which puppy goes to which home is decided at around seven weeks, once we have got to know them. You can read more about how we match puppies to homes.

We will be sharing pictures of the puppies as they grow on Instagram at @zetacentauri_psm.

Ventus as a newborn, seen from above: mostly white with round liver patches on his back

Ventus

Ventus de Zeta Centauri · Male

Latin for wind

Our firstborn boy has a distinctive pattern of markings that reminded us of a wheel or propeller.

We went through quite a few associations, from wheels to flywheels and moving air, before arriving at Ventus, the Latin word for wind.

Vireo as a newborn, seen from above: white with liver patches and a liver head

Vireo

Vireo de Zeta Centauri · Male

Latin for “to be green, vigorous or flourishing”; also a small songbird

This little boy has been remarkably talkative since the moment he was born. Some vireos are famously persistent singers, so it seemed particularly appropriate for our little commentator.

What makes it a funny coincidence is that he is puppy number two, just like Allegra from our previous litter, who was also a little chatterbox from birth.

Volta as a newborn, seen from above: liver with a jagged white streak across his back

Volta

Volta de Zeta Centauri · Male

Italian for a turn; also associated with electricity

This boy named himself through his markings: the jagged white streak across his back reminded us of a lightning bolt.

Volta is also the surname of Alessandro Volta, the Italian physicist after whom the electrical unit, the volt, was named. The combination of turning, movement and electrical energy, together with his lightning bolt, made the name seem rather obvious.

Valentina as a newborn, seen from above: mostly liver with white markings

Valentina

Valentina de Zeta Centauri · Female

From Latin valēre: “to be strong, healthy or vigorous”

At 368 grams, Valentina was the biggest puppy at birth. Valentina sounds a little like an Italian noblewoman, but we kept coming back to it.

The association with strength, health and vigour simply suited our biggest girl too well, and there’s nothing wrong with having the character of a noblewoman!

Viatrix as a newborn, seen from above: white with a large liver patch on her back

Viatrix

Viatrix de Zeta Centauri · Female

Latin for a female traveller or wayfarer

Viatrix is the feminine form of the Latin viator, meaning traveller. It was used as a woman’s name in Late Antiquity and among early Christians, and is probably the original form of the more familiar Beatrix.

We like the idea of a little traveller at the beginning of her life, with no idea yet where her journey might take her.
